Crawlspace Rodent Removal

There are few house problems less pleasant than a rodent infestation.  And the revulsion is for good reason, rats can destroy insulation, pluming, electrical wiring and vapor barriers.  Not to mention they can create a very unpleasant odor.

Let’s go beyond the initial shock of discovering unwanted pests or rodents in your home.  What’s the next step?

First things first: Inspection.

  • Identify all rodent entry points
  • Evaluate the extent of the material damage
  • Determine a strategy for removing current pests, damaged materials and preventing a re-infestation.\

Second:  Remove damaged materials.

Depending on the severity of the damage, the following materials may require removal:

  • Underfloor insulation
  • Duct insulation
  • Vapor barrier
  • Ducting

Third:  Sanitize & Deoderize

After removing the damaged materials, an odor can often remain.  This can be mitigated through the application of a biocide and deodorizing treatment.

Fourth:  Prevention

All the cleanup work in the world won’t do much good unless the rodents are prevented from gaining access.  This can be a very difficult process and must be completely with absolute certainty before installing new materials.

Fifth: Replace damaged materials

lastly, new insulation and a vapor barrier are installed to return the crawlspace to its original condition.  This is also a great time to upgrade your insulation and improve the energy efficiency of the home.
